Tokyo Ghoul √A

Episode 1: Faith

First episode was amazing, everything that I was expecting. After Ken freed himself, he unleashed his full ghoul power. So powerful that he was able to keep up with Ayato Kirishima. Honestly, this episode could of done a great job of ending season one. With such an amazing first episode I hope this season will  not disappoint.

Aside from the action, something to take note  is Ken's change of heart. In the end while talking to Touka he said that he would not return to Anteiku and so he would join Aogiri. Was the  battle with Ayato enough for Kens influence to join Aogiri? Ken confronted Ayayto, stating that Ayato joined Aogiri to protect his love ones, could it be that Ken wants to protect his close ones?

This anime is all about what is right and wrong, and both ghouls and humans see each other as evil. So, who is right?

Tokyo Ghoul

Tokyo Ghoul

Setting

Tokyo Ghoul sets in Tokyo, in a world where humans and ghouls exist. Ghouls can only survive if they eat human flesh. Therefore, humans see ghouls as evil creatures. While there are factions that go one after the other, ghouls are hunted down whether they have killed or not. Making life difficult for pacifist ghouls.

Plot

Tokyo Ghoul starts when Ken Kaneki encounters Rize Kamishiro in a coffee shop reading the exact same book as him. After Ken took interest in Rize they went out. However, not realizing that Rize was a ghoul, Rize tried to kill Ken. In the process metal beams fell on both, badly injuring Ken and killing Rize. In order to save Ken's live he was transferred organs from Rize into him, transforming Ken into a half-ghoul/ half-human.

Ken forcefully learned that human food was no good to him. And the only alternative was to eat human flesh. As Ken is under self conflict between eating human flesh to survive or dying human. Ken is forcefully feed by Touka Kinshima a member of "Anteiku". Ken is then taken to Anteiku, which happens to be the coffe shop where he met Rize. In Anteiku he is taught to live like a half-ghoul/half-human.

Opinion

Tokyo Ghoul did a beautiful job of developing setting, however that is all it did. No major story development happened and as an anime it felt pretty empty. However, there is so much content to work with, making a season two a must. Thankfully, there is a confirmed season two to air in Winter 2015.
